In 2017 the average wedding in America costs $33,000. The wedding venue or location is the highest expense. 44% of weddings in America are paid for by the bride’s family. The tradition of the bride’s family paying for the wedding comes from the ancient concept of a dowry. A dowry is a sum paid to the groom for becoming the provider of the bride
